What would you do if your car broke down at an out of the way location?  Would you be prepared?   If you have a cell phone make sure you always bring it with you on any road trip.  It could save your life.

The first thing you would need to do is call for help.  You may need to call AAA or a tow truck.  While waiting for them to arrive call and let someone,  like your husband, father or a friend know where you are as best as you can.  You may not have street signs to go by.  Mile markers on the highways are a good source of location.  Stay with your car.  This will help someone find you.  It is a lot easier to find a car then a person that strays away.  Especially in a snow storm.

If  someone sees you and stops and you aren’t sure what to do, best thing is to make sure the doors are locked, crack your window and thank them and tell them help is on it’s way.  Better safe then sorry.  I really hate to say that because there are so many good people out there.  But, there are those few that could change your life or end it.

Always be prepared and alert.  A few good things to keep in your car at all times are, a blanket, flashlight, a gallon of water if your car over heats and a pepper spray.  That should be left in the glove compartment for easy access.

Many of us love to take a stroll in the evening, or some like to jog, no matter when you go out you should go prepared.  Most people prepare themselves with jogging shoes, walking shoes, maybe an umbrella.  But one thing you should think of is……what if a dog starts to chase you, what if you fall and hurt yourself, what if someone attacks you.   These are things that you have to be for.  There are many items that you can purchase that are small and can hook to a belt loop or stick in your pocket.  You don’t need to carry several different items, you can select one that you can use for any dilemma you may have.

You can carry a Mace Screecher, which is a high pitched shriek.  Or Mace also makes a Muzzle Repellent, which you spray.  Usually on an animal, but I am sure it would work on a human.  And of course there is pepper spray, which is sprayed at the eyes and it will give you time to get away.

• Never leave your child unattended, such as in a car, poolside, home alone. 
• Teach your children the importance of the basic rules for their safety.  
•  Listen to your child, they maybe trying to tell you something in their own way.  Make sure they feel they can come to you and share their problems .
• Make sure you always do background checks on your childcare givers and call references.  Also, you may want your child to meet the care giver a couple times along with you,  to she how the care giver responds to your child and vise verse.
•  Teach your child not to answer the front door, even if it is a friend or a relative, as in many instances children are abducted by someone they already know.
• Teach your child how to answer the telephone.   Make sure they do not disclose any personal information .
